Glass selection tends to be both a science and an art. It is the intent of this paper to remove the SIapY%)h
"mystique" surrounding glass selection, primarily based on the chromatic properties of the glass, U0t|i'Hx
and to show via careful parametric analyses how we can optimally select glasses for lenses of ~Oa$rqu%m
different f/numbers, spectral bands, and performance requirements. The important roles of *?BY+0
refractive index and Abbe number as well as partial dispersion will be considered. Using the ,A'| Z
SCHOTT glass map, six separate and identifiable regions along with glasses within each region e8rZP(g&g
will be discussed. The goal for this paper is to make glass selection easier to understand.
